Access to affordable, high-quality childcare is essential for parents in Workforce Solutions Alamo’s 13-county region to maintain employment, pursue education, or engage in job training. Inadequate childcare options lead to higher turnover rates, productivity losses, and unfilled positions among employers, with over 29,000 jobs currently available in the Alamo Region. Workforce Solutions Alamo collaborates with 620 childcare centers, providing early education to 14,781 children; however, 4,058 remain on the waitlist, highlighting the gap between demand and capacity. To alleviate this issue, increased investment in programs like WSA’s Child Care Services is necessary to support working families. Lawmakers can further assist by developing funding strategies and economic incentives to bolster the state’s childcare system.
