Texas families face significant barriers to accessing affordable, high-quality childcare, affecting parents’ ability to work, pursue education, and maintain mental health.
State childcare scholarships have proven life-changing for families, enabling parents to work and children to thrive in developmental programs. However, many families remain on waitlists or rely on unsafe, unlicensed care due to high costs and limited options. A coalition of over 120 organizations has proposed a legislative plan to address these issues, including increased funding for scholarships, expanded childcare supply, better support for childcare workers, and stronger pre-K partnerships. The Texas Legislature has an opportunity to enact these changes and significantly improve outcomes for families and children.
